Sleep Better

Sleeping in an oxygen enriched room is restorative and healthy.  Everyone needs good sleep, but it is more difficult in the mountains.

How to sleep better

“Exposure to high levels of oxygen encourages the brain  to remain in deep, restorative sleep….” according to a Harvard neuroscientist.

The alpa and the omega of sleep disorders is always first and foremost the introduction of increased oxygen at night.  You might be prescribed a CPAP.   You might be prescribed pure oxygen via a cannula.  Possible surgery might be prescribed.  Whatever the problem, oxygen is always the solution.  We suggest that you follow the advice of your doctor.  We may be the solution you need.

The four stages of  sleep

There are 4 stages of sleep.  We’ll get you to number four quicker.

Deep REM sleep (short for rapid eye movement) is the goal.  If you are having trouble falling asleep, you will never get there.  Again, enhanced oxygen in a pressure room will certainly help.  Using oxygen therapy at night allows your body to get more oxygen into the bloodstream so that you may get a better night’s sleep.

Sleep apnea

During sleep your throat muscles relax, and the airway restrict the airway. Your brain wakes you up to take a breath. This cycle may repeat itself up to 30 times an hour.  Untreated sleep apnea can cause the following:

  • High blood pressure
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Depression
  • Impotence
  • Heart attack.

Altitude Sickness

An oxygenated room can cure the symptoms of altitude sickness or AMS (acute mountain sickness).  At altitude you are not able to take in as much oxygen, and can become a medical emergency if ignored.  Even if you are acclimated, your guests or family members may not.  Your choices are oxygen therapy, or to leave for a lower elevation.  Symptoms include:

  • Headache
  • Feeling and being sick
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Shortness of breath
